Having Bev teach me about movement and my body was and continues to be a revelation.
Having swum laps for seven years as my preferred exercise and had a trainer at the gym for an equivalent amount of time, and even experienced some yoga for a year (not my favourite choice), I thought in an innocent but ignorant kind of way that I knew something about myself and my own relationship with my body when it came to exercise and movement. Little did I realise when commencing training with Bev that I was a virgin to the relationship that I would be beginning with my core muscles, my breathing when I moved in certain exercises, and the fluidity and flexibility that these movements introduce.
Bev deconstructed my thoughts about exercise and my body within the first half hour of my first session, and basically presented to me an opportunity to explore and experience a deeper level of connection within myself that I hadn't actually given credibility to before with exercise and movement for harmony in the body.

Her innate and expert knowledge of anatomy and physiology comes from many years of mastery of her own body and she is so great to watch when she demonstrates with her body how a movement or technique should be done. In fact I have learnt so much from observing her body move as it is such an excellent physical canvas to present what she wants to share. She moves with a poise and grace and connectedness that is rare in her field and beautiful to witness.
I love the flexibility and creativity of her classes in that they are uniquely structured and improvised from her sensitivity, guided by how the client is feeling in that moment, and never do I feel like I can't be bothered with the exercises that I have to do, nor do I feel like I have to push myself or 'try hard' which I have encountered when I have previously had an exercise regime.
Working with Bev you get her immense support and encouragement, which sometimes you need in the heat of the moment when you are holding a difficult pose and surrendering to your body.
In learning new movements there can be a lot to consider such as, centreing yourself with a gentle breath, knowing which muscles to connect to and which to let go, what areas not to hold in tension, how to position each part of your body and still co-ordinate the whole.
Bev is such a steady guide and gets as excited as me when I 'get' the exercise, and she is hilariously funny, especially when she mimics my trouble spots, and ill-learnt behaviours in my exercise. I look forward to every session with Bev as it is such great healing medicine for my whole body and being.
