True Movement with Bev Carter
I first experienced True Movement with Curtis and Natalie Benhayon in the UK in sessions with lots of other people. Initially I didn't enjoy it as everyone else appeared to know the movements really well and i seemed to have two left feet in comparison!
Growing up I could only ever dance if I'd been drinking or lost my inhibitions somehow - I was painfully shy and moving in any way other than walking "normally" was a firm no no!
So when I met Bev Carter through having exercise sessions and got to know that she also did True Movement sessions, I booked her in for a private TM session so I could practice in private!
I was really nervous and Bev was just so awesome at putting me at ease and really encouraged me with such warmth and love: I felt like I was 5 and she was my Mum, supporting me to come out and be myself!
I was definitely a bit guarded and jerky with the movements as my head got in the way and tried to make sure I got the movements right but again Bev was so amazing at picking me up and keeping it super light and fun and joyful that I had no chance to beat myself up if I felt I'd "got it wrong"!
After my initial session with Bev I continued my True Movement practice to varying degrees, sometimes doing it daily and sometimes a bit ad hoc, when I felt to. But the more I do it, definitely the more joy I feel in my body and the more confident I am in myself in general - its another very supportive tool that helps connect me to my body and when I'm connected to my body, rather than being lost in my head, life is good!
